The friend label

Friendship lowers the friction score. The label is also a cover, and covers slip.

Choosing Friends tells the site to ease friction a little. The assumption is that the pair has a public story in which collision is less licensed. The assumption is often true, and often convenient. A pull between friends does not vanish because the word friend is available. It goes looking for reasons: a joke, a favor, a late walk that “does not count.”

If you ran this reading because the friendship has started to feel like a courtship, say that to yourself before you say it to them. The chart will not out you. You might, if you forward a card as a hint. Hints are how unnamed bonds begin inside friendships, and they spend the friendship to do it.

Two honest paths exist. Keep the label and stop feeding the extra hour, the extra favor, the reread. Or offer one clear sentence and let them refuse it without losing the ordinary friendship on the same night. Both paths are narrower than “let’s see what the score says.”

Try this

  1. Name the extra thing you do for this friend that you do not do for the others.
  2. Decide whether that extra thing stays, shrinks, or gets spoken.
  3. If it gets spoken, use a sentence they can decline. Do not attach the index.

Easy to miss: Sending the card as a flirt and calling it curiosity.
